Though born in Singapore, American baritone Brent Reilly Turner considers himself a true Central Floridian. Mr. Turner began his study of voice at the age of sixteen at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. In 2005, Mr. Turner received his Bachelor of Music from Stetson University in Deland, FL under the direction of Dr. Craig Maddox. Turner received his Master of Music from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati in 2007, where he studied voice with Professor William McGraw.
Mr. Turner’s professional operatic career began at the age of nineteen, singing the role of King Melchior in Orlando Opera’s presentation of Amahl and the Night Visitors. While attending CCM, Mr. Turner performed five leading roles including “Count Almaviva” in Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca’a 2006 production of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. His other credits from CCM include “Sid” in Britten’s Albert Herring, “Albert” in Massnet’s Werther, “Belcore” in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’amore, and “Escamillo” in Bizet’s Carmen (abridged).
Mr. Turner’s stage contributions extend between professional and amateur companies, and he is as comfortable with music theatre as well as the operatic stage. His study of American musical theatre has led him to such roles as the title role in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and “El Gallo” in Schmidt’s The Fantasticks. Mr. Turner’s other stage credits include “Publio” (Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito), “Dr. Falke” (J. Strauss’ Die Fledermaus), “Pirate King” (Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance), “The Learned Judge” (Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury)
Mr. Turner is now participating in the Utah Opera’s Apprentice Artist program. He was most recently seen as the “Imperial Commissioner” in Utah Opera’s presentation of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. He has also participated in young artist programs with Tulsa Opera, Ash lawn Opera, and Opera North.
